The coolest coffee shop in Louisville

Okay, Heine Bros. devotees, please don’t stone me, but for the past six months or so I have espoused Java Brewing Company as the BEST coffee in the Louisville area. No offense intended to Coffee Crossing or Hobknobb Cafe or Perkfection in Southern Indiana—all of those are good, as well as Bean Street Cafe. HOWEVER, Java Brewing Company won me over to their flavor on my first trip. I have only bemoaned my inability to access their locations ever since.

I am writing this right now from beneath their magnificent outdoor patio on Frankfort Avenue. I’m sitting in a pea-gravel, leaf-strewn, rough-composite walled-in arbor, literally underneath the wisteria. A corvette revs its engine behind me. Acoustic music filters down through the branches from concealed speakers, and I have chosen a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich & the roast of the day to serve as my breakfast, taken on the run, taken late, taken after a horrible night, needed desperately not just for fuel, but for comfort. Excellent coffee, excellent food, crusty bread, melty cheese, there are even some peppers in here.

This is not just a coffee shop. This is a little piece of heaven.

There used to be an expensive Italian restaurant here. I remember it. Java Brewing Company occupies the space with such magnificent elegance. Absolutely perfect. I want to die and go here.

I am fortunate enough to be teaching collage at the nearby Clifton Center on Tuesday mornings in September. I know where I will be stopping to work, before I go.
