Barrio Antiguo is awesome during the day because it is the colonial part of town and even better at night because this is where the nightlife of the city really is. Other areas of town have trendy bars and clubs, but in the Barrio Antiguo you can find clubs playing new music and places that are much more traditional. It’s also small enough that you can walk around. Guidebooks say its not safe to walk around at night, but its just like the downtown of any other city – keep your eyes open and don’t do anything stupid and you will be fine.
