Long stretch of uninhabited beach at the south end of the island. 25 years ago someone posted a mail box and some journals between some sand dunes. people go there to sit and write and experience God. the journals are left behind for others to write and read. someone collects them when they are full. blank ones are left behind for the tradition to continue. this has been going on for over 25 years. search “kindred spirit” and “sunset beach” on a search engine. must visit if you are in the area. the beach does not have much commercial activity. mostly a bunch of vacation cottages. if you like commercial, north myrtle beach and myrtle beach sc are 30 and 45 minutes away.

Sunset Beach

Worth visiting!

I live here

It’s a beautiful place! During the summer the traffic is horriffic and locals (like me now:) get upset with being stuck in it! There are tons of things to do in Myrtle Beach nearby but Sunset is much quieter. In the fall they have great tidepools on the beach and the water is still very warm. The waves are pretty small and the beach is sandy with not many shells (less foot cutting). It’s a great beach for kids. It gets a little busy in the summer I would recommend coming in September or October, those are my favorite times to be there!

My family and my friend’s family rented a house there together back in ‘93. That was back when POGs were the craze. We would go to the arcade about every day and buy POGs from that little store next to it. On one of the last days we were there, we bargained with the arcade owner.. he offered to give us about 15 POGs a piece in exchange for our help cleaning the arcade. We definitely took him up on it.
