Worth visiting!
Pre-Theatre Tastiness
Before Spamalot, the gf and I headed down to 701, a classy joint with a good pre-theatre option ($26 for three courses) located just off the Naval Memorial. The food was quite good – the scallop appetizer was a particular standout, and my salmon with cremed parsnip, asparagus and lobster emulsion was also quite tasty.
The restaurant itself was almost empty when we entered – 6:00 on a pleasant June Saturday evening – but seemed to be doing good business when we left an hour later. (Hopefully, they are doing better business during the week.) That meant we got to sit at a four-six person booth, which was pleasant. When we were getting ready to go, the pianist was just getting ready to start. 701 is a bit upscale for me to add to my rotation (and it is only a block away from Atlantico, and two from Chinatown and its restaurants), but it was certainly worth a visit. Also, I like square plates.
