SF Bay Ferries

... and it’s a great commute.

traveling from Oakland (Jack London Square) to San Francisco, I was so thrilled to be on a happy little boat, instead on a subway full of grumpy people, I completely forgot myself. Climbed up onto the top deck, stood by the rail, and enjoyed the views, the wind, the drama of it all.

When I got to work, I discovered that my then long hair had turned to a brown version of Bozo the Clown hair.

If you ride up top, take a scarf or hat. If you are a tamer sort, ride inside and get yourself a cup of hot chocolate or a snack at the bar. However you do it, this is the classiest way to traverse the bay, expensive for a regular commute, but a great way to break up your routine once in a while.

If you are a tourist, check out the ferries. They are a lower-cost, non-touristy way to get a water tour of the bay.
