Monument Circle

Built in 1902. here is a free Civil War museum beneath the city/monument. The entrance is on the west side. If you walk up the stairs on the south side, that entrance will take you to an elevator which takes you half way up the 294ft monument. then you can take stairs to the top and look out all four sides through windows. Its neat and it only cost $1. yes one dollar.

fact: the architect was german and in the 50’s many Indianapolis residents thought the men on the monument didnt look american. So the beards on the statues were shaved off.

my b/f and i went to indy for the weekend a couple of winters ago. we had a fun time. we went ice skating, we went to circle centre mall, we went on a carriage ride through downtown indy and aroun monument circle. it was snowing and sooo pretty. would love to go back and do it all over again.

Although I’d had quite a bit to drink & it was all a bit blurry…

My friends and I had the most fun visiting this place at about 4am while we were in Indianapolis. We had it all to ourselves and with the lights it was gorgeous! I have no idea what it is like inside though, haha.
