Everytime I go into a zoo now I think of Pi and Richard Parker, but there’s something I can’t articulate yet that upsets me about them. That being said, the Valley Zoo is good for kids, the elephants on so and are regularly fed and all… just don’t go for the food, they only have burgers and chicken fingers and fries and grease.
EDIT: As regards the elephants, one of them, Samantha, recently tried to open a gate latch to get out their (irresponsibly small) enclosure and cut about 20 cm of her trunk off. The zoo is being condemned by some people here for the way them and the other animals are kept, and this Kenyan conservation expert just did a talk here and had some harsh words to say about the place. So… not so much a good place to take kids?
