Why I recommend this place to visitors
‘Cos in comparrison to a lot of places it’s beautiful! Lived here for 10 years, it’a grey and you could end up depressed. There is loads to visit around and about if you are there on holiday especially in the countryside. Edinburgh is the place to visit in Scotland (in my mind) but I’d certainly take a look at Aberdeen. Go and visit the Creel Inn in Catterline, just south of stonehaven they have fine food and it’s a lovely wee village! Go to the University and visit Kings college, go on a walk in the woods, drive North and find a pub for lunch….

I live here and have done for the past sixteen years. I wouldn’t recommend it. It’s true when people say we are quite reserved, and that we drink a lot. If you’re interested in old architecture then maybe you would like it, but otherwise don’t bother.

A review of this place
Aberdeen is an old university town, built mainly of granite and situated on two handsome rivers, the Dee and the Don.
There’s a considerable amount of good architecture, mainly 18th century and Victorian, often with a definate severity about it.
There is a good art collection which has a good range of 20th century British painting, in particular. There’s also a surprising good Botanical Gardens.
The people are essentially quite reserved, until thay start drinking, of course, and they do a great deal of that.
It’s worth visiting for a couple of days, in which time you should go and see some of the castles on the Dee Valley. Best go in spring or summer as it gets dark early in winter.
