The first time I went to this place
went here this past Saturday night. There was a longish wait (45 minutes?) but it was worth it. The food was spectacular… we ordered exclusively from the raw foods menu and were not disappointed. a bit of sticker shock though—you’re paying $20 for an entree at a hole-in-the-wall vietnamese restaurant, but the food had fantastic presentation, unbelievable flavors, and generous portions. i live in northern california, so will have to enjoy it when i get the chance…

How this place changed my life
Perhaps over-dramatic, but still - while I am not a vegetarian, it was Au Lac and places like it that fully awakened me to just HOW good vegetarian meals and cuisine can be, a massive shift in thinking. It isn’t merely good vegetarian food, but good FOOD, period, and that’s what counts. Sure, most of the dishes involve mock meat via tofu, and a lot of people consider that a bit pointless - but I don’t and never will, because I just see it as an alternate way of preparing something. I recommend it beyond measure.

A review of this place: One of the best asian vegan/vegetarian places
There really isn’t much in Fountain Valley, however it does have a few good restaurants of which Au Lac clearly stands out.
Certainly one of the best vegan/vegetarian Vietnamese/Chinese/Thai food experiences I’ve had. I sorely miss this place. This alone justifies Fountain Valley’s existence.
