Tirunelveli

The name of the tirunelveli city comes from the old story. Once a servant of god venuvana nathar(The old name of nellaiyappar), spread his paddy to dry. He use this paddy to prepare the food for God. He went to take bath in the thamirabarani river. During bathing, the rain showers. The servant urges to save the paddy. When he came there, the rain showers doesn’t touch the paddy. Since He makes a fence between the boundary and paddy, the name of tirunelveli comes. “Paddy fence” Due to the respective words, the name becomes Thiru(Respect)Nel(Paddy)Veli(Fence).Thus the name Tirunelveli.
