Where else can you eat foccacia and drink cappucino whilst watching seminal films like The Year Punk Broke.

Small and classy. Supercool. Excellent place for a date of any gender.

i used to take the train into manhattan to see all kinds of art and indie films that never made it out my way, it was one of my favorite things to do during those years since I am a film junkie and I love manhattan, and I felt less isolated in the world (a frequent state of being at that age, I hear). The best film I ever saw here was….either delicatessen or night on earth…

And got sucked into buying a DVD from a filmmaker as I was walking past. Now to actually see a film there :P

My last trip to NYC, I went and saw A Great New Wonderful here. I really liked the theater. I work at a movie theater in Tennessee and it is not that neat. The Angelika has a cafe inside where you can sit and have a cup of coffee before you go see your movie.

    I really liked it.

I found out it was actually the IFC in Greenwich Village I went to. Guess I’ll have to go to this one too then.

I went to an indy film place in Greenwich Village – is this the only one? I saw Confederate States of America there. I’m not really sure what the theatre was like because I got in late, but it reminded my of my local indy cinema here in canberra called Electric Shadows, only it had a perspex booth to sell tickets (in case we try to shoot them to get into Being John Malcovic?). It was a great movie, and I don’t think it was showing anywhere else. I much preferred it to the mega-complex in times squaure where you had to take the escalators up what seemed like 186 floors to get to the theatre.

I saw The Brothers McMullen – which was probably about 10 years ago. Great independent film house. The LAST time I walked by there (couple of month ago) my sister pointed out 2 posters she had worked on hanging outside!

    Worth visiting!

...because I haven’t enjoyed my recent trips to the Angelika.

During my last visit—over a year ago—the lobby was crowded, ticket lines were poorly managed, and the sound travelling from theatre to theatre wasn’t muffled.

I find the AMC Loews Kips Bay superior on all counts.

With this said, the Angelika is sometimes the only theatre at which you can find certain controversial/independent films.

A small, quirky independent film theater on Houston near Broadway.
