Opened my eyes by Kleinz
Living in Epsom during my adolescence and not far from the road up to Epsom Downs where the Derby is run, I decided to take a walk and see the crowds heading for that premier horse racing event, which was held on a Wednesday.
My eyes popped when I saw the cars. Virtually every second car was a limousine (Rolls-Royces and the like), mostly chauffer-driven and with what looked like Dowager Duchesses sitting regally at the back.
It suddenly clicked where a lot of the money in England resided and what class distinctions still remained in England at the end of the 1960s.
