Worth visiting!
Why I recommend this place to visitors
A couple of friends and I used Ohakune as our base when we went on a ski trip last weekend to Mt. Ruapehu. It has everything you could possibly need – pubs, cafes, takeaway shops, a supermarket, backpackers, a petrol station – but not enough to make you feel like you’re living in a tourist trap. It’s 20 minutes away from the Turoa skifield and 45 minutes away from Whakapapa. Definitely the best place to base yourself for a great weekend away in the wintertime!
