Erdene-Zuu Monastery

We traveled to Erdene Zuu, built on top of the ancient capital of Mongolia, in the late spring. We visited not only the ruins of the temples (remember the communist takeover from 1924-1990s), but also monks busy at prayers. We had a monk pray for our safe journeys as well. Some “excavation” was going on to locate some of the old structures, but I could be wrong about that.

All you need to understand the place is a copy of the Lonely Planet – you don’t need to take a tour.
