Why I recommend this place to locals

they can make even a plain old stoli and soda look beautiful. and they have the prettiest light fixtures in all the land.

Fresh juice!

Sun Liquor is a great place to go even if you’re not drinking. I asked the bartender for something juicy but without any alcohol and I got a delicious concoction of freshly squeezed citrus juices with a little pineapple and soda water thrown in. I didn’t miss/need the alcohol for that to be delicous!

I need to go back for the cafe espanol, because I’ve got a thing for drinks that are set on fire.

Sun - Sum - Sun

I went here for the first time last night. I figured out a neat trick. Start out with a drink at Sun Liquor then walk next door for a drink at the Summit. Next, walk back here for another drink. That’s three drinks!

The last time I went to this place

I dig the old-style fridge behind the bar, but the rest of the rest of the decor isn’t really my scene – I don’t really understand the need to go so over-the-top faux. I’m stoked there’s a new bar close to home, I just wish it wasn’t so, uhm, fake? Oh, but the Mai Tais are delicious delicacies.

News about this place

The news about this place is this place is the news. I mean, it is new! We visited Sun Liquor, located next to the original Top Pot on Summit in Capitol Hill, on its second night of operation. This bar is owned by the same doughnut purveyors that created Top Pot and it shares the same sort of over-designed aesthetic. While the kitchy coffee shop look works for Top Pot, Sun Liquor’s retro-Asian theme felt overwhelming for the tiny space. And for some reason faux-Asian decor bugs me a bit-the pictures of Chinese people and hand-painted Engrish on the walls was a little over the top. They used fresh-squeezed grapefruit juice for their greyhounds though-delish. I only live a few blocks away so I’m excited to go back, despite my grumbles about the interior design scheme. Seems like a good place to start the night—and then you can stumble over to the Summit Pub two doors down to end it.
