Waimea Bay

The first night in oahu we had an full moon eclipse. the next morning we woke up and got to see the moon set, we walked down to Waimea Bay and enjoyed every minute of it….

The snorkeling here was great. Its actually a lot better than it is at Hanauma Bay, since the water is much clearer. Its deeper than at Hanauma Bay, so you cant get as close to the fish, but overall, its a much better experience.

Parking in the small lot off the main road is impossible. Not only is the lot full, but when you get there, there will probably be a handful of people sitting in their cars just waiting for a space to free up. Instead of joining them, go north and when you get to town, park there and walk back. Its not that far and you will be on the beach before the people waiting even park their car.

My mom, born and raised in Hawai’i, insists that we go to Waimea Bay every time we visit. It’s awesome. A beautiful beach, tons of crazy people jumping off the cliffs, etc. And great surf during peak seasons.

Although it’s quite a ride from Waikiki and has become more popular over the years it’s worth the ride. The sand is like flower. The local boys take turns jumping into the water from a large rock they scale. The water is warm like bath water, clean and clear. I saw a beautiful sea turtle last time I was there. Stop in Haleiwa and see what the locals live like….it’s magical, it truly is!

I’ve jumped off that rock into the ocean. It’s a must! Very fun.
