Tampere

I’ve been to this area of finland every year since i was 18 months old, as my mother comes from finland. Although I don;t speak the language the people are friendly and in the summer the area is amazing, but you have to get out of the town and into the country. And lovely beer!

Well I don’t like Tampere. It’s too crowded and compared to Turku too young :D Well they have good pizza there

I am from Tampere. In a lot of ways it is boring at first glance. It is not flashy, how could it be, it is in Finland. Maybe I just love this place because I am from there, I lived there for ten years and have gone back to visit a few times since then. I cannot tell a tourist what to go see, becasue I never was one butif you have any questions about it, ask me.

It changed my life because I was born there. I love it and you should too.

The best time of my life…. Very nice city in Finland… 2 hours away to the north of Helsinki..

If you ever find yourself in Tampere make your way up the highest hill overlooking the water. There you’ll find a small park and a red house with green trim.

Stand there looking at the sky and the water and the house and the trees and you will feel at home, more at peace than you ever have anywhere before.

I spent a few weeks here on a spontaneous vacation, for the sole reason that I’m a Linux fan and new that Linus Torvalds was from Finland… Plus, RyanAir flies here very cheaply from where I live. There is an excellent spy museum in Tampere (http://www.vakoilumuseo.fi/) where very little is under glass, but much is hands-on. There is also a Lenin Museum that is full of information, but I found pretty dull. The real jewel is the technology museum (called Vapriikki?) in the center of town, where you can see famous computers and play with flip-movies from the 3o’s. Amazing! This city has some amazing jazz clubs with live music, blues bars, warm food and everyone speaks English…

I’ve visited tampere in Winter and Summer, but have ben told that Autumn is different yet again.

I’m aiming for this Autumn if all goes well.
