A night to remember by cranberrygoddess
I saw the musician from my hometown of Canberra, Australia, known as Fred Smith http://www.fredsmith.com.au/ there, or as Iain Campbell Smith http://www.iaincampbellsmith.com/ in this country, or as Lain Campbell Smith, to the dude announcing it. He is an old favourite of mine, I’ve seen him tonnes of times live but this time I talked to him (he asked if he’d seen me before somewhere, and so did his wife, lol I must have been to quite a few of them over the years), then ended up having dinner at his in laws’ place with a group of people from the concert, and going with some of them to watch the cricket in this Australian bar called 8 mile creek (I’d better add a separate entry for here).
His music is a combination of humour, politics, love songs, sad and all of the above songs about his work in PNG and the solomons, and others. He really gets alot of his personality across in his music and talking between songs. That is definitely one of the things I like most in performers, and is one of the reasons why I like going to folk festivals, because it tends to have alot of them these days.
He’s also a former public servant like me, and can see the horror in it :P So I like that too.
I was perhaps a little blunt in telling him that his name was not Iain, it is Fred, but he had to be told!
