Went earlier this month  — 3 months ago

    Not worth it!

My boyfriend and I went for a weekend for something to do. We went on a ghost tour and walked around the battlefield. It was a cold and boring weekend. I did take some pictures with orbs in them, but the most exciting thing to happen was that the hotel neighboring ours caught on fire!! Whoo Hoo…. My guess is this place would be more exciting to visit in the summer.

Why I recommend this place to visitors  — 1 year ago

    Worth visiting!

I live in Gettysburg, have lived here for about 6 years now (since 8th grade and throughout high school) I just wanted to put my thoughts on the place. I recommend it to visitors. It’s full of history and beauty and tons of things to do, places to eat and places to shop. (be sure to check out the pa monument and devils den, take a ghost tour, eat at the avenue restaurant (where i work), check out the ragged edge coffee shop (a popular hangout for teens) and ride a horse through the battlefields!) it’s a great place to visit.

The battlefields are nice, but don’t miss the walking self guided tour of the city and the ghost tours at night.

The first time I went to this place  — 1 year ago

I never have been to any battlefield before- this was an interesting experience. It really put the war into place in my mind. Seeing the landscape, I was able to see how they would have fought, and what a sacrifice it was.
    It is a great place

A review of this place: I love this place...  — 1 year ago

    Worth visiting!

I only live about 30 mins outside of Gettysburg, so I’ve been there many times. It’s a great little town full of history and things to do…I don’t really recommend going in July unless you are a hard core civil war buff….because it’s usually hot and humid and packed full of tourists…the traffic is ridiculious…and the speed limits do not apply…which makes walking through town almost a danger especially if you have small children. However, If you go more on the off season…it’s a beautiful place to visit, there are tons of shops, resturants, museums and other things but keep an eye out for tourist traps such as the ghost walks, there’s tons of them ranging from $6 -$10 and they are all the same…also if you plan on going to the battlefields after dark keep in mind that there are snakes and other creatures all around not to mention the park rangers…the parks are open until 10pm. Until hunting season then they close at dusk.

    Worth visiting!

My boyfriend’s family lives out in Hanover, so whenever we visit, we always spend a day in Gettysburg.

Lots of memorials, lots of tourists, but never fails to inspire awe (especially the Eternal Flame monument). While in town, definitely do a ghost tour (fun AND educational), do some shopping, get a yummy bite to eat (I keep winding up at the Blue Parrot Bistro), check out the pet shop (cutest kittens & puppies ever), maybe find a bargain on antiques. Gettysburg’s always a good time.
