    Worth visiting!

It was a madhouse and it took us a few minutes to find a table, but we ended up sitting with a brother and sister from DC/Florida and a Father and Son from Wales, we had a great time.

Its easy to make friends once you’ve had 3 one litre Dunkels.

I disagree with the food comment below, we got the goulash and it was great, othere people around got the pork knuckle i believe and that looked great too.

All in all, know some good drinking songs and some good toasts

    you cant not have fun

Don’t order anything but beer. The food is awful, and drinks other than beer are even worse than the food…

If you like beer and German folk songs, the atmosphere is a great though!

Definitely worth visiting. Expect to share a table, though. It’s pretty crowded.

Do NOT sit at the Stammtisch (the one with the sign above it and the nice table cloth) – this is for the regulars and it is their special table. You will stick out like a tourist if you do sit there. (It probably won’t matter because mainly tourists go here anyway).

The food is mediocre at best. I suggest going to a beer garden rather than a beer hall like this one. One trip is plenty. The music is fun- but you can get that in a beer garden as well and mingle with locals. These are sprouting up all around the US now (Cincinnati ‘the sister city of Munich’ / N. Kentucky + Vegas). This is ‘the original’ though.

If you do go however, make sure you stop at Schuhbeck’s ice cream right across the “Platz’l” – they have tons of unique flavors (rose petal, chocolate chili, litchi etc).

I don’t particularly like beer but the Hofbrauhaus beer was phenomenal and better still they serve it in huge glasses! Enjoy!

I drank 4 litres of heffeweizen here. And mind the pretzel girl, her pretzels are delicious.

I visited here during a National Guard active training period when I was in Munich providing coverage of the German army working with the U.S. Army in partnership. Not only did I make many friends, but Munich is gorgeous! And it’s the best beer in the world!

There’s nothing better than sitting with 10 other people you don’t know at the same table and drinking beer. I’ve met some interesting people here and consumed 6.5 liters of the beer in one night (not recommended).
