A tip I have about this place

Rent a golf cart to get around.

We stayed at the Fort Wilderness cabins specifically because we needed a kitchen for one of our group. This turned out to be really convenient – we made breakfast and packed lunches and were able to cook a couple of dinners locally. The cabins were clean and comfortable (although quite dark and rustic). Each cabin sleeps 6 and there is maid service. There are lots of outdoor activities like fishing, boating, horseback riding and Segway tours (I did one today and it was SO MUCH FUN!!). Every night they have a campfire with marshmallow roasting (you have to buy not just the marshmallows, but also the sticks for roasting – rip off) and a sing-a-long with Chip & Dale and a Disney movie. You can see the Magic Kingdom fireworks from the beach as well as a water light show.

However – the bus system is slow and there is a lot of walking and waiting before you even get to a park. Food choices are basically nil unless you go to the store. Luckily we had a car so we could escape, but I felt trapped otherwise.

Service is spotty. One morning we got up very early to walk to a bus stop to wait for a bus to the ferry and then wait there until someone in line called someone else to find there is no ferry service in the fog. NO DISNEY EMPLOYEE EVER SHOWED UP TO LET US KNOW. We had a similiar bad experience which included crying children and a nighttime wait in the rain which I do not want to re-live by describing.

And even having said that I would stay there again. But I would avoid the inappropropriately named Magical Express which is neither.

Worth visiting!

My favorite resort at Disney. Truly separated from the rest of WDW. Very relaxing at one of the log cabins with nature all around you
