Motril

In November 1979 I fancied a change so gave up a boring job and together with my then girlfriend and two other friends set off from England in a converted VW delivery van to find some fun and sun. We crossed to France at Calais and just drove south. After more than a week we reached the sea here near Almuñecar. I don’t remember much about it other than after a night-time drive from Granada along tortuous narrow mountain roads (there weren’t many autopista at that time) I remember the sense of relief and achievement when we reach this point, and how refreshing it was to get into the sea after a week living in a van. I’ve never been back, maybe I will one day. We stayed there one day and moved on to Algeciras to cross over to Africa.
