Arras

The people of Arras were wonderful and friendly. I remember two old ladies who spoke even less English than I speak French spending half an hour trying to help me find an open bank. Neat little town.

The last time I went to Arras was last January. I lived in Arras for five years but I left it three years ago. When I got back, I thought Arras had changed. Arras seemed to be more known. Some famous band gave concerts in Arras, which was really strange ( Muse, Depeche Mode… ). I have a house there, which is rented now, and I was kind of angry to see another family in my house and not mine. I moved three time in my life and I always wonder : How will it be if I get back ?

I might return to Arras at the end of the year. As I am older then at the time I left Arras, I might see it with other eyes.

was my first trip outside of the UK. I set off with a friend to hitch to the South of France. It took us a whole day to reach Arras from the ferry at Calais. We then spent the whole of the next day trying to get a lift out of town. The French were not keen on picking up hitchers in those days. We then spent a couple of days in Arras which turned out to be a really nice town and then caught the train back to Calais and the boat home. Have been back to Arras many times since; it’s a very attractive town.
