It used to be so ugly... by Adar

It used to be covered by a monstrosity called the Embarcadero Freeway — a double decker highway of concrete that blocked the view to the SF Bay. In 1989, it was damaged by the Loma Prieta earthquake, and the decision was made to tear it down.

Now it’s a beautiful green strip between the city and the bay, with picturesque buildings (they’d been there all along, but hidden by the Concrete Monster) and lots of green and flowers. You can arrive from Oakland by Ferry, catch a train or a bus, and be off into the City — but don’t forget to enjoy the Embarcadero itself, reborn and beautiful!
