Great Muffulettas!
If you are going to have one – have it at Central Grocery! Make sure you have plenty of time to wait in line. There are very few seats where you can eat so it’s better to take it to go and have a picnic somewhere else – maybe Jackson Square it’s pretty close.

Even Though I Can't Do It All
Unhappily I am allergic to the olives in the olive salad that Central Grocery puts on the muffuletta (which they invented) but there are so many other good olives that it is still worth the visit and the long line.

More than merely a muffuletta joint
The first grocery I ever entered that sold pink peppercorns. And I wasn’t even looking for them! There was a large jar of them on a shelf behind the clerk at the cash register, in a lineup of other large jars filled with other kinds of plant matter. I love the mad jumble of provisions all around the cramped and crowded space. And I do love the muffulettas.
