the Rosebud: Easy on the Eyes, Light on the Tummy, Hard on the Wallet by Mahalie

My coworkers insist Rosebud is a great place to get drinks…but I had dinner there.

The prices are incongruous with the decor, service and overall experience. It’s one of those places that takes itself very seriously and serves you giant white plates with a fancily decorated sample-sized speck of food on it. My boyfriend ordered the buffalo rib-eye steak at $25 – it was good, what there was of it, but certainly not great. I had the andouille stuffed calamari – there were two bite sized pieces – literally. One of our party did not receive their dinner for over 20 minutes after the rest of us, of course our tiny meals were long gone by the time his arrived even though we waited until he urged us on.

I’ve worked in the restaurant industry and mistakes happen; a good server and kitchen work to control the chaos and fix things before patrons even find out. When you present and price your food as though it is art, the service had better be as well.

I’ve had plenty of wonderful experiences at pricey restaurants – this was not one of them. If you find yourself there by unalterable invitation the mac & cheese did look good, and like it would feed an adult. Otherwise, in the area, try Via Tribunali a few blocks east or head over to Crave.

Just to make sure I wasn’t crazy or just unlucky I headed over to Robotic Gourmand, ah, I hear an echo!!

I am here every monday night.

William, one of my favorite bartenders in seattle, works that night and wednesdays. Nicest, friendliest, drink servinest bartender in all of seattle.

He serves a good and proper espresso martini.

Mojitos made with hand picked fresh mint.
