New York Stock Exchange

My roommate’s job is to support the American shares business in some big ibank. She got to go to NYSE sometimes, and I’ve been hoping that she could bring me along once. It didn’t work, coz she doesn’t work on the handheld device they use and needs someone else to take her in as well.

Now they are talking about making NYSE completely electronic like Nasdaq, which means the floor, specialists etc would go away, so I think my chance of ever going in is slim.

My roommate describes inside as small and quiet, and dirty… quite different from what I’ve been seeing on TV.

I first toured this place in 2000 when it was open to the public. I didn’t get to see the opening or closing bell, but it was interesting all the same.

In 2002 I attended a coctail party on the NYSE floor. This was put on by SIAC, and was a very cool place for a party.
