Oxford Theatre

It has a style you don’t see anymore in new movie theatres. Probably because it was also used for stage productions and other events. All the new theatres have a very commercial modern look. This on has big pilers and a balcony and show the best movie in town!

There are very few old-style movie theatres around now that just have one screen. The multiplex filled with screens, entertainment and food options are the rule now. In Halifax there is one older theatre that is still open (even though it’s part of the Empire Theatres chain) and that’s the Oxford. It’s a neat place to see a film as it is large and comfortable (with a balcony!) with the emphasis on the theatre and screen. The lobby is tiny and a bit crowded, but it creates a more intimate feeling. While Halifax doesn’t have a rep theatre, the Oxford almost fills that role as more independent films are screened here.
