Worth visiting!

Worth the admission fee

We took the #1 bus down Mass Ave to get to the Mary Baker Eddy Library, which houses the Mapparium and is located right next to the First Chusrch of Christ, Scientist. It cost $6 to get in, but I thought it was well worth it.

I was impressed with the size of this stained glass map of the world – 30 feet in diameter. Being inside the globe really put in perspective just how far South New Zealand really is. However, (being a family of science nerds) we did have to make fun of the fact that the world was turned inside out so that we could see the continents properly from the inside.

I was even more impressed with the acoustics of the globe. One person whispering could be heard clearly by everyone else. Even more strangely, the sound often seemed to come from behind you even when you were facing the person speaking to you. To me, it really seemed like some sort of psychological thriller.

This place is definitely worth visiting once!
