Worth visiting!
Timeball Station is currently undergoing renovations at the time of this writing (April/Autumn 2006), so the actual Timeball will remain at the bottom for a while.
Typically, however, the ball is repositioned to the top minutes before 1pm every day, and it takes the remainder of the day to slowly descend to the bottom.
Even outside that, going to the station provides a traveller with a great vantage point with which to view Lyttelton. The small hike up Sumner Rd. is worth it, definitely.
