Del Mar Race Track

It’s a race track. If you like horses and/or betting, you may like this place.

Getting in and out on a race day can be tough. There is an Amtrak station nearby (Solana Beach) with free shuttles to and from. Normally, an Amtrak trip to San Diego is a blast, but in this case I would have say ‘no’ to the crowded train filled with noisy, aggressive (or aggressively friendly) drunk people, and opt for the nice protracted crawl in the safety of your own car on the congested I-5. As an added bonus to your California adventure you get examined by the border patrol at the check point in San Clemente on the way back. All this assumes you came to the track from a place up north, such as OC or LA.

Going back to the thought of taking Amtrak, I suppose you would enjoy it if you were one of those drunk noisy people yourself.

Another idea if you like the train but don’t like being drunk in public is to stay behind for a couple hours and walk around Del Mar and Solana Beach before catching a later train.
