Karabagh is one of the most ancient lands, not only in Azerbaijan’s history, but also in the history of the world. It’s situated by the foot of Small Caucasia. Karabagh is rich in material and spiritual values. Sites of the most ancient times have been found in its territory. In 1968 the jaw-bone of a primitive man of Azykh named azikhanthropus was found in the Azykh Cave. Presumably, Azykh men lived in the region 250-300 thousand years ago. Throughout the history Karabagh was an inseparable part of Azerbaijan. Significant changes in Karabagh history took place in the VII-XI centuries, with the Arab Caliphate occupation and disappearance of the Albanian state from the scene.
Beginning from XIX century (after Gulustan 1813 and Turkmenchay 1828 treaties) Karabagh was exposed by Armenian attacks. At that moment Karabagh is under the occupation of Armenia. There are about 1 000 000 refugees in Azerbaijan after the occupation of Karabagh.
The material and spiritual values of Karabagh were violently destroyed by Armenians.
