There was a long line to get onto the tram, the ride up was amazing, but so steep I would have been scared if I hadn’t had a seat, then you get to the top and get off inside this terminal that is like a giant shopping mall where you go up dozens of escaltors before discovering there is no way of seeing it without having bought the overpriced ticket to stand on a platform, and walk down again a bit and then discover you could have paid for it with your octopus card and go back and do that. The view is fantastic amazing super duper cool! you get lots of photos, eat an ice cream, watch the clown, run into lots of people. The moon is the most amazing moon you will ever see if you go on the night I went, so good they give out brochures at the hotel for the best places for viewing the moon. You decide you’ve had enough bumping into other tourists, go back into the crazy shopping mall on a hill, the decide to leave. you walk outside to get the tram and realise you could have seen it from there and avoided the cost, hoardes of tourists, and resentment that you had to pay. Then you line up for a good 40 minutes or so and stare at the amazing mood while you do it, go back down and contemplate the awe and wonder of the universe… At least that’s what I did, maybe not everyone experiences it like that.

Go in the evening! Reserve dinner at 7:00 or so at the Pearl restaurant! IT is amazing and ask for window table. So beautiful. Very swank restaurant with the most amazing view in the city! Their food is Asian fusion with lots of Indian and Mediterranean influence. The prices is not too high, either. Very delicious chocolates at end of meal. Excellent service. Watch the light show on HK island any night from the Pearl restaurant while enjoying meal. Most of the servers are from Australia, Canada, US, Japan, or Europe.

Get the tram at the basement of the 21-story building at 118 Garden Road, Central. The tram is a great ride up and enjoy the nice views while getting to the top. This is a must-see in HONGKONG!!! WOW!

I watched the fireworks for the handover from here. It was the perfect spot to witness this momentous occasion.

This is a must see if you are going to Hong Kong. You will see many brochures and what not telling you to take the bus from Central Train Station (Bus 15c will cost you $3.20 HKD) to the cable car (funicular) but ignore them. One of the greatest things about Hong Kong is walking and the fact that everything is not too far. You can definitely walk this distance and gain a great appreciation of the people and buildings.

The first time I went was a Sunday and the streets were full of people (95% being women) sitting on the sidewalks/footpaths playing cards, eating together, and just talking. I am not talking about just an ordinary crowd, there were 10’s to 100’s of thousands of women. Apparently this is how they spend their one day off a week. I believe the woman are Filipino women who are employed as caretakers or maids. It is a site to behold.

The Tram will cost you $33 HKD ($4 to $5 USD) and the top has the usual tourist shops with some good places to eat. The view is well worth it!

Definitely do this at night. It is groovy in the day, but there is a lot of pollution, so the view may be hazy. At night though, all the lights are on and everything sparkles. It is the way to go!
