Madaba

Went to Madaba in 1980, but it is a memorable experience.
Miscalculated the distance, driving from Petra, and arrived in Madaba at night.
It was a very sleepy village, but we asked someone where the church was that contained the mosaic map of the Holy Land. Since we had come so far, we hoped to see the outside
of the church. But, before you know it people were knocking on doors, and someone came with the key. Amazingly, these wonderful Jordanian people were showing complete strangers the treasure that was the map of The Holy Land.
