Midtown

Going here for 10 days in June for a UN conference!

Everyone has to experience midtown at least once in their lives. It is really amazing. I work there, and to me, it is still a fascinating place-so much to see and do. There is one thing that is all too common though: tourists eating at the chain restaurants! They are ridiculously overpriced and besides, you can eat at Applebees or Olive Garden at home. NYC has some of the best food on earth. Go off on some of the side streets and hit a local pizza place or an ethnic cuisine place. Better food, better prices, and you get a more authentic NYC experience.

With its tall buildings, cool sites and good shopping, this is the part of the city that’s nice to visit, but you wouldn’t want to live here.

Midtown is really a big amorphous neighborhood, but it splits into East and West along 5th Ave. Check out Midtown-East if you’re looking for sites on the other side of the island.

I went to the public library (just the outside because it was closed) and Bryant Park by accident one day because I was so focussed on shopping that I forgot I’d made a turn to go to a shop and just kept going. I bought something in Coliseum Books that I gave my mum for her birthday today.
