Worth visiting!

Why I recommend this place to visitors

This is slmost a fairytale hilltop and castle village. The castle is a child’s dream and I reckon there’s probably still some child in even the oldest of us. The views out over the plains are spectacular. In fcat it was the most dramatically beautiful single place I saw in a visit to Alto Alentejo.

Why I want to go to this place

National Geographic Traveler has a short piece in April 2007, p. 46, about Santa Maria in Marvao, “the ultimate Portuguese retreat” at only $137 with breakfast. Sounds breathtaking.
