It’s nice to walk around and look at all the statues while the tourists mill by and the local art students sit around and sketch things.
It’s worth checking out the copy of the David if you want photos, since there’s none allowed in the Accademia where the original is kept. Not to mention that seeing the real David after seeing the weathered one in the square makes you appreciate the marble its constructed from that much more.
Bandinelli’s Hercules and Cacus is also worth seeing, as is Rape of the Sabine Women by Giambologna, which is stunning from any angle.
