A Progenitor by Curmudgeon

My mother’s paternal grandfather Walter Shields Davis was the engineer who first surveyed and charted D’Arbonne Bayou and its basin. The website address for the Refuge is http://www.fws.gov/darbonne/.

Great-grandfather Davis died when my mother’s father—someone I was not particularly close with—was a child. While there were no stories that routinely floated about the family concerning this man, there was, for a while, one lone vestige of him near at hand that was quite tangible and wonderful. This is the subject of the entry I entitled Walter Shields Davis Holly, Former Site.
