Awesome 1920s style cocktail lounge — 2 years ago
Worth visiting!
I’ve been living in Fitzroy for ten years now, and I’ve seen Brunswick St (one of the main shopping/eating places in Fitzroy) go from being extremly alternative, to a place for yuppies and suburban nit-wits on the weekends.
Polly Bar is the exception, along with a few other places, that have kept to the old feel of Brunswick St – because it is totally different to all the other bars playing Ministry of Sound Chill out seasons.
It’s lushily decorated in chase lounges, red velvety wallpaper, chandelliars hang from the ceiling – it’s as if you’ve walked into the movie Moulin Rogue!
The cocktail list is amazing, with all the recipes made by Polly staff. My fav. was the ‘cherry bomb’ which tastes like an alchololic cherry milkshake. Also the ‘raunchy affiar’ which has tasty bits of lime pulp. – - I’m not a huge drinker, so it’s great that the cocktails are seperated into three categories – Soft as silk which are the lesser strong cocktails, Something unusual – which are a bit more alcholic, and Whips and Chains, which are very alcholic! I always go for the Soft as Silk drinks, whilst my male friends like their Maritinis in the Whips and Chains section.
All kinds of people go there, you’ll see your yuppies, but also your rockabilly boys and girls, and even some goths.
It’s a fun place, with good drinks, great service, and nice food.
The websites cute as well!

ps. They also have a kitchen with tasty treats – the chicken drumsticks are yummy!
