A tip I have about this place

Go on November 1 (Dia de los muertos) to see a crazy day of the dead parade. They also have blessing of the animals, and other events going on there like posada during Christmas time, etc. They have Aztec dancers there during most of the Mexican holidays. On Cesar Chavez day, the Mexican radio stations go there, and they have dancing and all that. They have a website, if you want to look it up. Since it is next to Chinatown, they have a Chinese lantern festival too. You might as well kill two birds with one stone and go to Chinatown while you are in the area.It is kind of a tourist trap there, but really pretty on Olvera St. The surrounding area is kind of edgy, so use your common sense if you are going to walk around. You can get there on the A Dash bus in Los Angeles that cost a quarter. The area where it is located is called El Pueblo de Los Angeles in downtown. It is supposed to be the oldest part of Los Angeles.

Dia de los muertos

It’s a nice place to shop and take pictures. The Dia de los muertos celebration was fun, there were tons of people and so many kids but it was great because they all were so happy. The alters were nice but sad, it’s a good learning experience there’s a lot of history. It’s one of my favorite places in LA. good food, good people, nice weather go. ;)

Dragons on Olvera!

Went there during Chinese New Year and there were dragons that paraded through the stalls. Also bought a tiny glass pig for my menagerie from the glass man that my mom frequented 40 years earlier. Good food too!!!

A Nice Afternoon

Olvera Street is a great way to get out of the hustle and bustle and quite a nic nac heaven!

We made the mistake of eating at one of the restaurants, because we weren’t aware of the booths serving food further down. The food at the restaurant was expensive ($13 a plate and no free refill on coke) and very mediocre. We had two kids with us and their taquitos literally tasted like burnt plastic. The restaurant was nice about it and comp’d us, but next time we will go for the $2 taco like we had planned.
