St. Pierre & Miquelon aka: St-Pierre Et Miquelon

I was a freshman in Highschool, and it was amazing!
We spent our days at Le Francoforum learning about different things, and during the evening, we could explore and spend time in our pension

I lived in St. Pierre for 4 months and have visited since. My first suggestion – wait until summer to visit! It’s a small rock in the Atlantic and the winter winds blow harshly. Having said that, I’d agree with others, in that it truly is a little piece of Europe in a most surprising place. I remember everyone smoking Gauloises and Gitanes, drinking red wine mixed with water at lunch, chesse and fresh baguettes for breakfast every morning, stopping at the boulangerie at 3am to get pain au chocolat fresh from the oven on the way home from Le Bar Bracque and L’Etoile…

But don’t plan on spending a long time. You’ll run out of things to do in 48-72 hours. The hotel room was the tiniest I’ve ever had. The bathroom door hit the bed when you opened it. You have to really want to go there. It’s a five-hour drive from the main highway to Fortune, where one catches the ferry and then a one-hour boat trip.

I went to St. Pierre on a whim when I was in Newfoundland on a cycling trip. I would highly recommend it! Such an interesting mix of culture – a little piece of Europe that you access through a small Newfie fishing viallge. And I even found a tarte aux framboises! Just one warning – don’t try to bring any french salami back to Canada :(.

I was born on the island of Saint-Pierre, of the Saint-Pierre and Miquelon group.

This is the most unique and original destination in eastern North America. This is no caribbean sun resort, but an authentically French outport with a lot of history and genuine French cuisine and culture.

20 years ago existed at the edge of reason where you were likely to be surrounded by fisherman, widowers & those who do not wish to be found. won a drinking contest with commercial fishermen just back from some months at sea, found an archive of 75-100 y/o glass slides of the the harbour including docked Irish boats filled with whiskey waiting to slip into the states, spoke in code for 2 nights with some bar owner, fell pretty hard for one of his bartenders who was very sweet. left after 4 days not knowing why i was leaving. Savage beauty at day, very french noirish at night, think Touch of Evil meets Bob Le Flambeur.
