    Worth visiting!

I was flying to NASA Langley (Roanoke to Norfolk) to interview for a job just before the first shuttle crash. The same ice storm that screwed up the shuttle also screwed up our landing gear and forced us to make an emergency landing in Lynchburg. Then the only way to get to Newport News was via Pittsburgh International Airport. I arrived very late at night for my interview the next day, during which the shuttle crashed. The major rerouting to Pittsburgh International Airport, along with everything else that went wrong, was part of what prevented me from being enamored with NASA. I turned down the job and started a career with conveyor belts which has allowed me to see three continents.

This place pulls in the sidewalks early! But eat at Quaker Steak and Lube. Great western PA hospitality, and local beers on tap.

This is one of the better places to do it. Easy to navigate, more on a human scale than places like Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson airport or Chicago’s O’Hare. Decent food court and shops in the middle of all terminals to keep you occupied or grab a quick bite between flights.

Street Prices, Easy to Navigate  — 2 years ago

    Worth visiting!

This airport is one of the few in the country I’ve been in that requires its vendors to sell food at street prices – meaning, no serious markups just because they’ve got you trapped in the airport.

It’s also one of the most well-laid out airports I’ve been through.

I’ve spent ridiculous amounts of time traveling back and forth between this airport and home. I know it like the back of my hand. It’s always absolute amazing to arrive and absolutely devastating to leave.
