A review of this place: Great hotel, great location!

We love this place. It isn’t for everyone. There are no phones, no TV, no pool – just books, ocean views, fireplaces, hot spiced wine and a couple of cats. It is funky, cozy, and relaxing. So much charm, in my opinion.

Haven't stayed there...

...but I had a tour of the rooms and they were great. I would love to stay in the Poe room. I’ve eaten there, too. The food’s pretty good.

If I ever have the money, I’m gonna rent a room for a week, enjoy the lack of diversions, and just write, write, write.

This is a hotel for writers and readers...

If you are looking for the Holiday Inn with cable TV experience… don’t come here.

The Sylvia is a hotel for the creative and literary minded. If you want to be inspired and feel connected to your creative self, this is the place to go.

The first time I stayed there, I was sitting on the back deck, looking at the sunset on the ocean and drinking a glass of wine. I thought to myself, this is perfect, things couldn’t be any better. Then the gardener came to the deck rail and looked out over the ocean and said “Oh look, the peles.” I cocked my head and looked up at her. She was wearing a straw garden hat and yellow dress. “The peles”? I asked. She pointed to several broken strings of six or eight birds flying low over the waves. “The pelicans, they fly along the crest of the waves in the evenings.” she said. I smiled and took a satisfying swallow of wine. When I had thought a few moments before that things couldn’t get be better… evidently I was wrong.

The Sylvia Beech hotel is truly a unique and amazing place to visit. The breakfast is more indulgent than any other bed and breakfast I know of. Totally worth visiting.

A review of this place: My wife would go back - I wouldn't

This literarily-themed hotel is more sizzle than steak. Rooms are small and minimally furnished. The hotel decor borders on annoyingly precious, the floors creak, there are miscellaneous cats wandering around, no TV in the room… airlift me to the nearest Holiday Inn, pronto.
