The first time I went to this place

This place is amazing! All of Sardinia truly is a hidden gem, I went to Alghero the day after Easter, it is just gorgeous. So many photos to take here I didn’t know where to start.

Why I recommend this place to visitors

A lovely town surrounded by sea walls, which is a good base for visiting other towns in Sardinia. I visited in mid-September, it was still bustling but not overly crowded and the weather was still sun sun sun. Whiled away many an afternoon perched on the walls, enjoying people watching and reading.

Recommend going to visit Neptune’s Grotto at Capo Caccia. There are frequent boat trips from Alghero, or (if my memory is correct), you can also get to Capo Caccia by public bus, and you can then walk down the 654 “goats’ steps@ to the base of the cliff where the grotto is. The steps look amazing – from a distance, they look reminiscent of the Great Wall of China, snaking their way along the cliff contours.

Money Exchange

Hi,

Ive been to Alghero Airport acctually on my way to Olbia, where I am staying. Just an advise if you didnt bring euro dont count on the airports money exchange cause they dont have it there. Also their eletronic bank doesnt work most of the time. I ve been here twice and had the same problem exchanging pounds on arrival.

A review of this place: Alghero- the Little Barcellona

Alghero is a beautiful town with a characteristic gothic-spanish architecture. The view is enchanted and it’s one of the most romantic place in the mediterranean sea.
It’s also very nice for family trips and for young tourists looking for a bit of “vida loca” at night.

I spent many summers in Alghero but I can suggest to visit it even during New Year’s Eve when there will be parties along the town and fireworks and concerts.

Lovely even in November

Mini break in mid November in Alghero – still warm, and very quiet. We stayed at the Hotel Margharita, which was a bit old fashioned but perfectly nice. Alghero itself was small, and mostly closed when we were there, but I should think it’s very busy in the summer.
