A tip I have about this place  — 1 year ago

Worth visiting!

I just got back last night!...

I could honestly go on and on about this island. It is very quaint, natural, and serene. The colors here are beyond beautiful and I really appreciated the smallness.

The water is crystal clear and glowing. The fish are abundant and the house reef is great. Each day you will see something new.

I suggest requesting a room on the west side of the island – this side gets the sun during the day, the beautiful sunsets, less wind, and the water is not at all choppy so you are able to snorkel at the house reef.

I also would suggest not bringing children here. There were several families with small children (still in diapers) which I think is irresponsible. The Maldives have a huge problem with trash and waste removal and diapers are one of those environmental catastrophes. I also did not appreciate the day that a diaper came floating down the beach. Not only this, the island is much more couple oriented and with dinner at 8pm children are inevitably fussy.

We stayed in a delux beach bungalow (only 8 on the island), and this was the best of both worlds… we were right at the water, during high tide in the water, I felt a bit more safe than completely over water and I liked having my own strand of beach.

You will not regret going here. It is closed until Nov. this year for renovations, which could also mean price raises.

Other raves include the food, the kind staff, the options for leaving the island for excursions, and the insanely beautiful beaches.

What I imagine this place to be like  — 1 year ago

Worth visiting!

I am anxious for my trip in a little over a week… I envision Veligandu to be serene, quiet, and very much paradise.

Unfortunately I also fear that trips to Veligandu won’t happen much longer, as it is such a flat country and global warming is drastically happening all around.

I will post photos when we return!
