My friend calls it the nazi war bunker. It was definitely better when you could roll down the grass hill on top of it.

If you get access to anywhere other than the main tourist areas you can get very very lost, as I have done twice!

Also known as “New Parliament House” as it is not the old one. This is a unique government building. My father says that they could have bought an aircraft carrier for the price the government paid for this building, but he recons it was worth the price tag. It was designed so that the people could literally walk on the government. There are grassy slopes on the side of the building that in the past you could actually climb to the top. Due to security concerns, they have disallowed this, unfortunately, but you can still get to the top from an elevator inside the building. Above the center of the building is a large flag, which I am told is as big as a London double decker bus. Inside there is lots of artwork, including portraits of all the former Prime Ministers of Australia. It’s also air conditioned, which is a plus in the summer :)

Fascinating architecture and a great position, although it does house the politicians for a few weeks per year, it is the central point for Canberra’s planned approach. Canberra is divided into townships both North and South of Parliament House.
