Alpine Splendor by David Soul

Just north of Whisler, The Duffy Lake Road connects Mount Curie to Lillooet (94 kilometers, or 60 miles, between services or even houses).

This is a beautiful alpine drive on paved highway through canyons, across one lane bridges and through some of the most beautiful scenery on earth.

After climbing up the mountain the road begins to level off through Alpine Meadows, spectacular scenery of several Mountains and babbling brooks until about halfway to Lillooet you see Duffy Lake Provincial Park.

The lake is right beside the highway and being such a long drive, always a good place to stop and have a picnic lunch in the midst of absolutely spectacular Scenary . The area seems completely free from human influence and if you are lucky an occasional Bald Eagle or a Hawk will soar over the still lake.

At the other end of the road, just before you reach Lillooet is a viewpoint over the emerald-green waters of Seton Lake Reservoir and the surrounding Chilcotin mountains.

Near the viewpoint some evidence remains of kekulis, the historic underground winter homes built by the interior Salish-speaking St’at’imc people.

There is a self-guided interpretive trail (located at the viewpoint) that provides some interesting information about the history of the Lillooet area.
