Sam's Point

A great hiking area for people of all levels of fitness. The roadways are clear and easy for the most part. Sam’s Point is a short walk from the parking area. Once there you have conquered most of the uphill section of the walk, and the views are just fantastic on a clear day. If you continue on it’s possible to make a big loop around Lake Maratanza without any more uphill sections. If you’re up to it a side trip to the Ice Caves is a little more strenuous but well worth it. On the way back to the main trail another side trail will take you to Verkeerderkill Falls. It’s about a four mile round trip to the greatest falls in the area. Remember…it’s on private property, please don’t leave any trash for the rest of us to pick up.

It was a tough climb for someone as out of shape as I am, but it was a really beautiful experience and I’d love to do it again.
