My friends and I hiked to Cheakamus lake and thought it was gorgeous. We continued along the trail and ended up on another trail and reached Singing Creek. Beautiful area, we were the only ones there and a nice open rocky beach was our resting place for a couple hours. We tested the water and it was freezing – considering the glacier runoff of the creek entered the lake 10 meters from where we were swimming. But it felt great and the views of the snowy mountain tops and turquoise waters were spectacular. An easy hike with not much incline. The only downfall for us was that we had to walk the Forest Service Road (7km) because we had no car. Would not suggest that at all, the mosquitos were absolutely lethal.

Wilderness Camping - not far off the beaten track by David Soul

Wilderness campsites is possible at three locations on Cheakamus Lake in Garibaldi Provincial Park…. I’ve walked in, snowshoed and used cross country skis to access the area depending on season and conditions.

After a drive up a logging road to a small parking lot, a 3 km (45 minutes to 1 hour, one way) walk with minimal elevation change leads to the lake where an easy, pleasant trail that winds through old growth timber alongside the lake itself.

It is possible to portage a kayak or canoe on the access trail.

You can also access the Helm Creek trail to reach the area behind the Black Tusk (including Cinder Cone and Helm Lake from here.
