Elephant and Castle

Curious grotty place stuck in a time-warp in the 90s that’s… somehow still rather endearingly charming.

I mean, there is even that statue. With that castle on top of an elephant. What is going on.

When i first moved to London, i lived for two years here. Elephant & Castle for those who don’t know, is essentially a roundabout. with a big pink shopping centre! It’s dirty and noisy but in a way it kinda cool because you can still live there. A majority of the locals are good people, but it seems to attract a lot of nutters.

the best thing about E&C is that it’s a gateway to so many other places. 20 minutes walk and your in central, 10 minutes and your in waterloo. Kennington, Walworth rd, london bridge are within walking distance, brixton and camberwell is a short bus ride away.

One more thing though, avoid the subways, you’ll get lost.

Come here and imagine what it’s like living somewhere totally different, a Bolivian metropolis, an Eastern block decentralised suburban centre, or Detroit on the brink of a riot. I love it.
